For both Maymester and the student teaching internship, we had to reflect on our teaching using the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching Evaluation Instrument. The framework, which "identifies those aspects of a teacher's responsibilities that have been documented through empirical studies and theoretical research as promoting improved student learning," according to the Danielson Group, provides an important structure by which teachers can reflect upon their practice. The process of reviewing myself using the Danielson Framework has proven to be a time consuming but productive enterprise. What’s important are the emphases of the framework: preparation, environment, engagement, and professionalism. These categories reflect the most important categories of teaching, though one quickly finds how interchangeable artifacts for each section can be, which is evidence of effective, holistic education is, I think. |
